New bid to settle Everest height

Nepal is seeking help from the international community to settle a long-running dispute about the height of Mount Everest, officials have said.

China has long argued about how the peak's height should be measured, and the countries appeared to have agreed Nepal's figure of 8,848m in 2010.

The dispute has never seemed fully settled, however, and shifting geology in the region could also add confusion.

Nepal is now seeking international help to support a new, official measurement.

This project will be basically about foreigners doing the job for us even when we have technology, software, and expertise to do so much on our own?

End Quote Buddhi Narayan Shrestha Nepali border expert

With outside funding, expertise and equipment, it hopes to complete the job and finally, quantitatively settle the matter within the next couple of years.

"Since we lack the capacity to do the job on our own, we are preparing a project plan with the request for donors and we will soon be sending them out," Krishna Raj BC, director general of Nepal's Survey Department, told BBC News.

He said the three-year project was finally getting underway, with much remaining to be done.

"Funding and technology have been the main constraints. We don't have, for instance, the equipment that works in a place with -45C temperature," he said.

"We basically need data from gravity instruments, levelling points and the global positioning system (GPS) to get a complete picture.

"For all these technologies to work, first there has to be infrastructure in places like the Everest base camp, and then we need to mobilise Sherpas up and down the mountain with someone who can handle all those technologies.

"And then finally, the data will have to be processed in such a way that it will be acceptable to the international scientific community."

Height of controversy

The need for a fresh measurement has arisen mainly as a result of the dispute with China, which rules Tibet, on whose borders the mountain range also sits.

China had argued the world's highest mountain was nearly 4m shorter than Nepal's official figure, contending it should be measured to its rock height.

Nepal has said that the snow height should also be included, as with other peaks in the world.

The disagreement surfaced in past meetings on the two countries' Himalayan borders, and recently scheduled talks on the matter were postponed.

Nepali officials say even if the issue of Everest comes up during border talks, they will stick to what Nepal maintains is the official height of the mountain.

But they also say a fresh measurement has become necessary to "set the record straight once and for all."

Geologists say the Himalayan peaks are young and still growing as the Indian subcontinent slides under the Eurasian plate, causing the mountains to rise further.

Officials said a Danish university and an Italian NGO were already trying to help the Survey Department to make formal measurements.

But they added that these foreign organisations have limited funds and capacity to offer, and therefore more support from international community is required.

They said it was yet to be decided how much funding would be sought, and some critics have said the project may become too donor-dependent.

"The project to measure the height of the Everest is being developed in such a way that Nepalese officials and experts will have quite less say," said Buddhi Narayan Shrestha, a border expert and former director general of the Survey Department.

"This project will be basically about foreigners doing the job for us even when we have technology, software, and expertise to do so much on our own."

The height of Everest has been disputed ever since the first measurement was made in 1856, with the broadly accepted height of 8,848m first recorded by an Indian survey in 1955.

In 1999, an American team used GPS technology and recorded a height of 8,850 metres - a figure now used by the US National Geographic Society - but again, Nepal did not accept that and continued to use its own official figure.

Signs of hope in Pakistan ? America's prickly ally

It's difficult to make sense of Pakistan's pulsating political chaos, corruption, and instability. Yet pessimistic views of Pakistan, while endemic in the West, differ considerably from the perspective of Pakistani analysts who cautiously point to half a dozen hopeful developments.

Making sense of the pulsating political chaos in Pakistan is at times akin to peering into a kaleidoscope when the colors, crystals, and light are ever shifting, then trying to describe what you saw.

Earlier this month, an increasingly assertive Pakistani Supreme Court indicted the country?s prime minister, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, for contempt because he refuses to reopen a longstanding corruption case against his boss, President Asif Ali Zardari.

Just a few weeks before that, Pakistan was swept by rumors of a possible military coup against the president and prime minister. Those rumors were followed by talk of a looming judicial coup led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry?s Supreme Court.

There is a national joke circulating that the Pakistani Army decided against a coup d??tat this time because the generals persuaded the Supreme Court to do their dirty work for them.

Adding to the uncertainty is speculation about whether there will be early elections this year with the countervailing buzz that elections won?t take place until 2013.

And today there are 40 active, functional, television news channels stoking the furnace of speculation and gossip ? broadcasting 24/7.

One can sympathize with the US ambassador in Islamabad or the CIA station chief trying to write home reports that stand up for slightly less than the next 48 hours.?

Imagination can run wild amid these political uncertainties and instability. Pakistan has dozens of nuclear bombs. A 2009 Gallup poll showed that nearly 60 percent of the population in this Muslim country believes the United States poses a greater threat than Islamabad?s traditional enemy, India (at only 18 percent). Pakistanis overwhelmingly believe Israel was behind the 9/11 attacks on America.

Yet the US is stuck with Pakistan ? in for a penny, in for a pound. Washington?s worst nightmare is the witches? brew of a Taliban-dominated nuclear Pakistan led by radical mullahs eager to fan the smoldering political embers at home. While a Taliban-dominated Pakistan is probably unlikely, that could change in a nanosecond if an outside power were to meddle in the affairs of the world?s second most populous Islamic country.?

Bruce Riedel, adviser to four US presidents, rightly warns, ?The future of the global jihad will be decided in Pakistan more than anywhere else in the world,? making Washington?s quest for political stability in Pakistan an imperative.

BASEBALL | Hoyas Knock in 17 Runs in Win

Georgetown's bats exploded for 17 runs Wednesday afternoon to outslug Coppin State in the Hoyas' home opener at Shirley Povich Field. Senior outfielder Rand Ravnaas helped the Hoyas improve their record to 3-1 with three hits and four RBI in a 17-11 win over Coppin State.

Head Coach Pete Wilk saw the greatest production in the lineup from an unlikely place. Georgetown's sixth, seventh and eighth batters went a combined 7-of-12 with two home runs and nine RBI. Senior catchers Nick Geary and Kevin Johnson and junior infielder Corbin Blakey each drove in three runs, with Johnson and Blakey both going yard.

Wilk was impressed with his team's offensive performance but still acknowledges that it is difficult to predict whether this output will continue.

"Our offense has been pretty good," Wilk said. "This is probably the most talented offensive team we've had. We've had pretty good at-bats, but it's a bit early to see how good we're going to be."

The Hoyas' 17-run outburst overshadowed a shaky day for Georgetown pitchers.

Georgetown used six pitchers on the day, who combined to give up 11 earned runs and 14 hits. Redshirt senior Tommy Isaacs earned the win after allowing one run while striking out three over two innings of work.

Sophomore Jack Vander Linden started the game for the Blue and Gray and was by far the Hoyas' most effective pitcher. The lanky right-hander threw two perfect innings and struck out two.

Following Vander Linden's exit, Coppin State scored first when Georgetown freshman pitcher Max Allen got in a bind and surrendered three straight hits in the top of the third. Allen gave up one run before working his way out of the jam, thanks in part to a successful relay from Ravnaas to sophomore first baseman Steve Anderson to catcher Geary in order to throw a runner out at the plate.

In the bottom of the third, the Blue and Gray rallied to take a 4-1 lead. A sacrifice fly from senior infielder Andy Lentz, a two-run double from Ravnaas and an RBI single from redshirt junior infielder Mike Garza put the Hoyas on top. With the momentum in their favor, the Hoyas' bats continued to thrive.

Over the next four innings, the Blue and Gray plated 13 more runs while Coppin State mustered only four. The 13-run surge was led by a two-run single from Geary and a two-run blast from Blakey, the first of his Georgetown career. Junior infielder Danny Poplawski added an RBI sac fly, and Johnson capped off the scoring affair with a three-run homer in the seventh that put the Hoyas firmly in the lead, 17-5.

With its fate all but sealed, Coppin State put together a six-run rally over the eighth and ninth innings to bring the score to 17-11. In the top of the ninth, junior reliever James Heine suppressed Coppin State's valiant comeback attempt to secure the victory for the Blue and Gray.

Hoping to continue their hot start, the Hoyas travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., this weekend to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational against Cincinnati, UMBC and Wake Forest.

In order to come away from this four-game weekend series with some victories, Wilk's starters will have to go deeper into games to keep the bullpen fresh ? a tough task for them thus far.

"I'm concerned with four games in three days and a pitching staff that has been depleted by some injuries," Wilk said. "We're going to need [senior Will] Harris and [junior Thomas] Polus to go deep if we want a successful weekend."

Wilk also stressed that this weekend should provide a good test for his lineup.

Georgetown will kick off the weekend series Friday morning against conference opponent Cincinnati, with first pitch slated for 10 a.m.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S may be heading to Rogers next week

Arc S

According to a tip received by MobileSyrup, Rogers customers will soon be seeing the SE Xperia Arc S on the shelves. The Arc S is a slight bump from the current Xperia Arc that Rogers now offers with it's 1.4 GHz Qualcomm processor, and it's pretty likely that this will be the last Sony Ericsson branded device to hit North America now that Sony is sole owner of the name and franchisee. The Arc S is a lovely handset, and with Sony releasing a beta version of Ice Cream Sandwich already, it's going to be a fun one to play with.

While it's always just a rumor until Rogers says differently, expect to see the Arc S next week with a possible price point of $30 (CAD) on a 3-year contract, or $475 (CAD) outright.

Met abandons Bondy 'Rigoletto' for Vegas version

In this June 14, 2011 image released by the Metropolitan Opera, Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi conducts the MET Orchestra in concert at Tokyo?s Suntory Hall during the Met's 2011 Japan Tour. The season opens on Sept. 24 with Anna Netrebko, Matthew Polenzani and conductor Maurizio Benini in a new Barlett Sher production of "L'Elisir." The schedule includes the company premieres of Thomas Ades' "The Tempest" in a Robert Lepage staging with Simon Keenlyside that opens at L'Opera de Quebec this July, and Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" in a David McVicar production with Joyce DiDonato. (AP) ? The Metropolitan Opera has abandoned a new production of Verdi's "Rigoletto" by director Luc Bondy, whose grim version of Puccini's "Tosca" provoked intense booing when it opened the 2009-10 season. In its place, the company will present a far more radical reinterpretation that relocates the action to Ratpack-era Las Vegas of 1960.

The Met announced its schedule for 2012-13 on Thursday, and the "Rigoletto" opening Jan. 28 will be directed by Michael Mayer, who won a 2007 Tony Award for "Spring Awakening."

Bondy's stark staging, set in the 19th century instead of the 16th, opened at the Vienna Festival last May as a co-production with the Met and Milan's Teatro alla Scala, where it will run this November.

"I think the production just wouldn't have worked here," Met General Manager Peter Gelb said.

Bondy was surprised by the decision.

"Suddenly, Peter Gelb said he didn't want it. He could never give me really a reason. I think it was he didn't want a second 'Tosca' scandal, and I can understand this," Bondy said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "It was so sudden. I was believing that Peter Gelb was supporting me after 'Tosca.'"

While calling Gelb "very courageous" and saying he was not angry, Bondy made clear he was taken aback when Gelb dropped his production without a discussion.

"It was completely untransparent," the Swiss director said. "It was only a message: Hello, I have to cancel. With no explanation. It was like a cold wind from I don't know where."

Gelb said he left a message only after failing to reach Bondy. He refused to discuss his reasoning, saying "I would rather not get into it," and added "it has nothing to do with 'Tosca.'"

Mayer's rethinking has precedent in regietheater ? where the production team alters locale, epoch and specifications of a work's creators. In 1982 the British director Jonathan Miller moved "Rigoletto" to Manhattan's Little Italy in the 1950s for the English National Opera. And in 2005, German director Doris Dorrie shifted it to the "Planet of the Apes" for Munich's Bavarian State Opera.

In replacing a traditional Otto Schenk production that dates from 1989, Mayer will direct an opera for the first time. He will work with his regular set designer, Christine Jones, and costume designer, Susan Hilferty, and a cast that includes Diana Damrau as Gilda, Piotr Beczala as the Duke of Mantua and Zeljko Lucic in the title role.

A casino replaces the Duke's palace. An elevator will be used instead of a ladder against the garden wall. A seedy sex club on the outskirts of town stands for the inn. There will be electric lights resembling neon of The Strip.

In Mayer's mind, the Duke is akin to Frank Sinatra, surrounded by Sammy Davis Jr. and Jackie Gleason ? although not literally those stars.

"Vegas was always the locus of a decadent society. Women were always showgirls or cigarette girls or prostitutes. It really was a man's world, a man's playpen," Mayer said. "It was about drinking, drugs and power and money gone wild. And it all started to fall into place."

The Met announced its season without a news conference for the first time under Gelb, who became general manager for the 2006-07 season. This will be the second straight season without ailing music director James Levine, who is recovering from multiple back surgeries. He was to have conducted the Ring Cycle, Berlioz's "Les Troyens," Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore (The Elixer of Love)" and Wagner's "Parsifal."

"Our hope is that the following season he would return, but it's really too early to speculate," Gelb said.

Principal conductor Fabio Luisi takes over the Ring and "Troyens," with Daniele Gatti getting the start of the "Parsifal" run.

The season opens on Sept. 24 with Anna Netrebko, Matthew Polenzani and conductor Maurizio Benini in a new Barlett Sher production of "L'Elisir." The schedule includes the company premieres of Thomas Ades' "The Tempest" (Oct. 23) in a Robert Lepage staging with Simon Keenlyside that opens at L'Opera de Quebec this July, and Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" (Dec. 31) in a David McVicar production with Joyce DiDonato.

Focus will be on the 200th anniversary of the births of Verdi and Wagner in 1813.

There is a new David Alden production of Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera" (with Karita Mattila, Marcelo Alvarez and Dmitri Hvorostovsky, opening Nov. 8), and two other stagings that will have first appeared elsewhere. The Francois Girard production of "Parsifal" opens at the Met on Feb. 15, 2013, after first appearing at France's Opera de Lyon this March 6, and Handel's "Giulio Cesare" comes to the Met on April 4, 2013, in a production that first debuted at England's Glyndebourne Festival in 2005.

Placido Domingo will sing the baritone role of Giorgio Germont for the first time on March 14, 2013, in a revival of Verdi's "La Traviata" with Damrau as Violetta and Saimir Pirgu as Alfredo. It will be Domingo's 140th singing role following two debuts this year: Athanael in Massenet's "Thais" at Valencia, Spain (March 25) and Francesco Foscari in Verdi's "I Due Foscari" at Los Angetes (Sept. 15).

An abridged English-language version of Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" opens Dec. 18, targeted for families during the holiday season.

Ticket prices will increase by an average of 4.2 percent on subscriptions and 7.6 percent on single tickets

Nico Muhly's "Two Boys," will open in autumn 2013 following its world premiere at the ENO last summer. Scott Wheeler is composing the late Romulus Linney's libretto adaptation of his play "The Sorrows of Frederick," and composer Jeanine Tesori and playwright Tony Kushner are expanding the one-act opera "A Blizzard on Marblehead Neck," which premiered at Glimmerglass Opera in August 2011. It centers on the relationship between Eugene O'Neill and wife Carlotta.

(AP) ? Johnson & Johnson's longtime CEO, Bill Weldon, is retiring in April, following an embarrassing string of product recalls over more than two years that has cost the health care giant hundreds of millions of dollars and consumer trust.

The maker of Band-Aids and biotech drugs said Tuesday that Weldon will remain chairman of the board for the time being, while ceding the chief executive post to Alex Gorsky, head of the medical device and diagnostics business. The official transfer will be on April 26, the day of the company's next annual shareholders meeting.

Since January 2011, Gorsky has been vice chairman of J&J's executive committee, the senior leadership team. Besides the medical devices and diagnostics unit, which J&J claims is the largest business of its kind in the world, Gorskey oversees 140 manufacturing facilities around the world. He's also in charge of both government affairs and policy, and the company's venture capital subsidiary, called the Johnson and Johnson Development Corp.

Weldon, 63, has spent his entire career at J&J and became chief executive in 2002. The departure is being described as normal succession planning. But Weldon has repeatedly said he had no plans to leave unless asked to do so by the board of directors, which has long been loyal to him.

His tenure has been tarnished by more than two dozen recalls of nonprescription Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and other drugs began in 2009. The recalls involve problems from contamination with bacteria and a nauseating smell on containers to liquid medicines that may contain tiny metal shavings and products that may have the wrong amount of active ingredient.

J&J's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit has had about 25 product recalls since September 2009. Federal regulators have had three of its factories under increased scrutiny for nearly two years, and one of those, in Fort Washington, Pa., has been shut and is being rebuilt from the ground up. Meanwhile, the prescription drug division has had at least two drugs, for seizures and HIV, recalled over that time.

Medical devices and consumer products also have been recalled. Gorsky's medical device unit, the company's biggest by revenue, has had faulty hip implants that were painful to patients recalled, along with contact lenses that sting the eyes.

While there haven't been reports of patients harmed by the recalled products, the sheer volume of them is probably unrivaled in the industry. Weldon has repeatedly said he had the problems under control, only to have another recall pop up, with the latest just last week.

Congress has been probing J&J's handling of the recalls, including a "stealth recall" in 2008 in which the company secretly paid a third party to quietly buy up packages of faulty medication from stores.

New Brunswick, N.J.-based Johnson & Johnson also faces lawsuits over the recalls, including a recent one in which a family alleges its young son died shortly after ingesting a super dose of Tylenol.

Introduction To Juno In The Natal Chart

February 19th, 2012 @ 5:30 am by Satori

?And that?s what makes this a great game, is the support and the commitment that the fans give the game.?
?Nolan Ryan, Sagittarius Juno in the 9th house

Juno glyphJuno is most commonly known as the marriage asteroid and in myth the feminine counterpart to Zeus (Jupiter). Taken at its simplest, however, it is the mark of commitment in general. While we are most familiar with the role commitment takes in relationships, commitment is also touted as the determining factor for success in most areas of life.

In assessing your own Juno placement it is important to note not only the sign but also its house position. Juno?s sign will color the type of energy one?s commitment embodies as well as what sort of things one will deem commitment worthy. Juno?s house position represents the area of focus where one is likely to commit. Nolan Ryan serves as a very famous example of a Sagittarian, 9th house Juno. Sports and therefore baseball are Sagittarian (9th house) pursuits. With his Juno conjunct Venus his investment in the game of baseball made him a household name long beyond his actual career.

The aspects Juno makes to other planets and to the angles will flavor that commitment as well as bringing the energy of commitment to the functions of those placements. For example, an individual with Juno conjunct Venus may value constancy. Juno conjunct Mars makes for the kind of person that really ?brings it? when they commit to action, because they are ?all in.?

Where is your Juno and to what are you committed?

Hauppauge Broadway

After seven years and a hodgepodge of various "almost" products, Sling Media's Slingbox Solo ($179.99, 4 stars) finally has a direct competitor?albeit not a particularly effective one. The Hauppauge Broadway ($199) hooks up to your home cable TV connection, and then transmits wireless video at home or over the Internet to your PC, Mac, iPad, or iPhone. But thanks to its overly complex setup and lack of DVR control, it's only for the veteran PC tinkerer.

Package, Design, and System Requirements
The retail package includes the Broadway receiver and AC power adapter, an infrared cable that detects cable box commands, an Ethernet cable, an installation CD, and a fold-out paper manual. The Broadway itself is about the size of a home wireless router, and somewhat larger than the diminutive second-generation Apple TV.

The Hauppauge Broadway receiver measures 1.7 by 6.3 by 5.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 1.4 pounds. It's made entirely of black and silver plastic, with a glossy top, matte sides, and a black accent band around the middle. The front contains the power button and a USB port, while the sides are empty. The back panel contains a 10/100 Ethernet port, an antenna or cable TV connector, and S-Video, composite, and stereo audio RCA inputs. There's no HDMI or component video, though. There's also a small port for the infrared receiver, plus two more USB ports. Two fold-up plastic antennae in the back solidify the "router" look. Oddly, all three USB ports don't do anything yet; Hauppauge says only that they're there for "future applications," whatever that means.

To get started, you need a wireless router, an Internet connection, and a TV connection. The latter can be from cable, satellite, or from a digital TV tuner antenna. Hauppauge recommends a home broadband connection with upload speeds of at least 256Kbps, and either a 3G or Wi-Fi hotspot connection for the device on the receiving end. iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch owners need to be running at least iOS 4 or newer. The Broadway supports 802.11b/g/n wireless networks, and works with any PC or Mac running a Web browser with Adobe Flash installed.Hauppauge Broadway

Setup, Setup, and More Setup
Unfortunately, setting up the Broadway receiver is a royal pain?just like various other media extender-type boxes before it. During the initial setup, you have to connect the Ethernet cable to your home router, and then enter an obtuse, Web-based setup page at distan.tv, similar to the one you'd find on a Linksys or Belkin wireless router. After that, you have to configure each computer or mobile device to find the Broadway over the Internet, by registering each device with the correct IP address and by mapping a port on your wireless router. The Broadway requires a live Internet connection on your home router and a free Ethernet port. That meant the Netgear N900 ($179.99, 4 stars) router I used was fine, but an Apple AirPort Express router I tried first was totally incompatible.

The fold-up manual, such as it is, is terrible. To cite just one example, it says to put the infrared cable over the clear plastic window on the cable box, yet there are two separate IR receivers on the same wire, with no indication of which one to use and no picture, either. It's quite particular about how you position it. The manual also leaves out the part about connecting your cable box's A/V outputs (either composite or S-video, but no component). You have to magically know to do that somewhere along the way, and no cables are provided in the box, so you're virtually guaranteed a trip to Radio Shack or Staples unless you have an extra set somewhere in the house. None of this will stop someone familiar with PCs and networking, but it's not for the casual user.

Next, you have to program the site to recognize your cable box. My own Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD cable box, which is so common it has its own Wikipedia page, is widely used in New York City. But the Broadway didn't recognize it, so I had to manually train the unit to recognize various remote control commands. That's as tedious and confusing as you'd expect. If you use a direct TV antenna connection, you can skip this step, thankfully. There are also spelling and translation errors everywhere, and the distan.tv login page's "Win32 INetAccess.Guid" and "Accesscode" prompt isn't particularly inviting, either.

Testing, Mobile Viewing, and Conclusions
At least I can report the Broadway worked. It usually took about 30 seconds to cue up the live TV picture, even from my home network. During testing, I saw live TV playing relatively smoothly and clearly, if with a slightly grainy picture, inside a Google Chrome browser tab in Windows 7. However, the aspect ratio was incorrect. The software said 16:9, and the cable feed was 16:9, but the view was extra-squished. To change it, you must navigate to a separate Settings tab, which dropped the TV connection.

On the plus side, the Broadway lets you stream live TV to mobile devices, albeit not in the way you'd expect. For example, you can stream live TV to an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. But it doesn't require an app; instead, you visit distan.tv again, this time from Safari. If you have an Android phone or tablet, the Hauppauge Broadway streams to those via Flash, the same way it does on desktop PCs and Macs. But since Adobe has officially canned mobile Flash support going forward, we wouldn't recommend anyone buy this product solely for that purpose.

There's no high-definition support, which isn't a problem on an iPhone or over most Internet connections, but it limits the quality you could have seen on an iPad or laptop PC used locally. Frustratingly, you can't access the DVR portion of your set top box or cue up on-demand programming with the Broadway, either; you can only watch live TV.

Hauppauge makes some excellent products, including their various WinTV cards and the Hauppauge HD PVR ($199, 3 stars), which performed well in our tests. But aside from the Broadway's wireless capability, it's really tough to recommend the Broadway over a Slingbox Solo. The Solo has a more attractive design, offers smoother video quality, has a much simpler setup process, and costs $20 less. Granted, Sling Media charges $29.99 for its iPhone and iPad apps, but its computer clients are free, so it roughly balances out.

If you're not married to the idea of streaming live TV, you have plenty of other options. The Apple TV ($99, 4 stars) is half the price, has a much smoother interface, and lets you watch rented Apple movies, or (for extra cost) anything from Netflix's streaming catalog. For the same $199.99 as the Broadway, you can also buy the least expensive, 4GB Xbox 360 ($199.99, 4 stars). The Xbox 360 doesn't stream cable TV, but it far exceeds the Broadway's multimedia capabilities otherwise, and it's also a powerful gaming console to boot. The Sony PS3 Slim ($249, 4.5 stars) also holds its own and even adds Blu-ray disc playback.

you?ll have the children decorate the cornucopia before it will get filled.

Since the notion of the cornucopia is to rejoice a bounty and appreciate that bounty, you can fill it since
is traditionally completed with squash, corn and so on. You might also ask each member of the family to
take something that represents their own personal bounty to have. A new mom could possibly bring a baby umbrella
to put in the cornucopia while a newly on grandpa might put in a picture of their family, since that is certainly
what?s most important to help him. You can go over the items in the cornucopia holder at the dinner table
while enjoying your Thanksgiving feast.

Another spouse and children activity that kids for instance is the thankfulness jar. Anytime each person arrives at evening meal, they
place some text with something these are thankful for during the jar. Ideally, every person will add more than
one particular item to the container. At dinner, someone (preferably, the matriarch of patriarch from the family) reads your
notes. Everyone attempts to figure out who written which note. Those things can range from the really serious

grownup family members.

Some young families have several desks set about at Thanksgiving holiday. Many people buy skilled floral
arrangements to brighten the tables. You can also make a game out of it figure out who?s going to get

Finance: I Am Looking At Getting A Debt Consolidation Loan? (2/15 ...

Personal Finance: How Much do I Need for Emergencies? ? as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. It is not easy to save an emergency fund when you are, probably, spending just about everything you make, but it is important to have one, and I will tell you a few reasons why. One, in this economy, there is 9% (Unclear) unemployment right now. Lots of people are out of work, and/or in fear of losing their job. What would you do if you lost your job? If you do not have a cash reserve, which is your emergency fund, you would probably have to tap into either your 401k, take out a loan, which is not good, or use credit cards, probably even worse, and build up debt. So that is probably the key reason to have an emergency fund, the catastrophic thing, losing a job. And so it kind of depends how you feel about your employment. How secure are you? If you are secure, you need less of an emergency fund; if you are not secure, I would say have a year?s worth of living expenses, which means you need to do a budget, figure out how much you spend every month, multiply it by 12, that is your emergency fund. So, If you are more secure, I would say six months maximum emergency fund. That is the catastrophic. Then there are the things like you need new tires for your car, the roof starts leaking, a big dental bill comes up that you were not expecting. That also is emergency fund material, because you do not want to put those kind of things on your credit card. So to me that means you need a ?
