edmarielopze: google news: Have The Courage To Backpack ...

Posted By admin on November 1, 2012

Have you considered going backpacking around Europe or Asia? Well, what?s stopping you?

Maybe you?ve come up with numerous reasons as to why you can?t. Perhaps you don?t have enough money. Maybe you don?t have the time. Maybe you have to focus on your career and can?t take the risk.

I find that most of the time, these ?excuses? are just a way that your mind comes up with barriers to stop you getting out of your comfort zone.

Do you want to lead a life of mediocrity? Come on, I don?t think anybody wants that.

It?s fun to get on the internet and read more and more articles, books and other delights when it comes to travel, but ultimately your goal should be to get out there and experience it for yourself!

How Much Does It Actually Cost?

It?s a commonly asked question, and I?ve done the research first hand and can safely say that backpacking Europe on a budget can be achieved easily with $80 ? $100 per day. If you?re working full time and saving as you should be, this is actually not that hard of a figure to reach. It can also be done MUCH cheaper than that.

How To Travel Cheaper

Check out websites like WWOOF and CouchSurfing where communities of other travellers all put each other up free of charge. It?s a wonderful way to travel and is certainly easy on the budget.

Japan economy shrinks as China dispute takes toll

(AP) ? Japan's economy contracted in the latest quarter, signaling that like Europe it may already be in recession, further weighing down world growth.

On an annualized basis, the world's No. 3 economy shrank 3.5 percent in the July-September quarter, the government reported Monday. It was in line with gloomy forecasts after Japan's territorial dispute with China hammered exports that were already weakened by feeble global demand.

The bad news will temper optimism over recoveries in China and the U.S., where some economists are predicting growth will top 3 percent in the third quarter. China's painful slowdown likely bottomed out in the third quarter, with recent indicators such as factory production and auto and retail sales showing improvement. And Europe, though it may have turned a corner on its debt crisis as the financial system stabilizes, is forecast to get worse before it gets better.

Japan's outlook remains bleak, with most economists forecasting a further decline in economic activity for the October-December quarter, which would officially put it in a recession according to the common definition of two consecutive quarters of contraction.

Consumer spending fell 0.5 percent in the third quarter, as subsidies for auto purchases expired, and corporate capital spending fell 3.2 percent. Spending on reconstruction from the country's March 2011 tsunami and nuclear disasters has also weakened.

The drop for the current October-December quarter may not be as severe as that experienced in July-September.

"If the economy does recover in any way it will be a minute rebound," said David Rea, an economist in London with Capital Economics. He said the contraction in gross domestic product in the last quarter of 2012 could be a couple of percentage points.

More than two decades after Japan's asset bubble burst in the early 1990s, its policymakers have yet to devise an effective strategy to help the economy break out of its deflationary funk. Meanwhile, the Japanese yen remains stubbornly high, discouraging its companies from investing at home and undermining its export competitiveness, especially against rivals Germany and South Korea.

Strangled by weak consumer spending and public investment, the economy grew at an anemic 0.3 percent annual pace in April-June, according to figures that were revised down from the originally reported 1.4 percent.

The robust 5.2 percent pace of growth in the first quarter had raised hopes the recovery had taken hold, and until recently, the government was still forecasting growth at about 2 percent for the year. It had predicted a turnaround late in the year, but the renewed tensions with China over disputed islands in the East China Sea, coupled with sluggish growth in Europe and other key export markets, have doused hopes for a significant rebound before 2013.

A recent slew of dismal data releases offers little encouragement.

Squeezed by surging costs for imported fuel and sinking exports, Japan's current account surplus plunged to 2.72 trillion yen ($34 billion) in April-September, its lowest level since monthly data began in 1985, as the trade deficit surged.

Although Japan will likely continue to run current account surpluses for some time to come, its decline is a stark reminder of the country's reliance on exports to support its energy-intensive standard of living through massive imports of food, fuel and other resources.

Adding to the squeeze on pocketbooks from hikes in electricity rates, winter bonuses for employees are falling by an average of 4 percent this year.

Machinery orders for September fell twice as fast as expected. Meanwhile, the job market softened, likely hurting prospects for stronger consumer spending to help offset weak exports. Slower-than-anticipated government spending on reconstruction has further undermined demand.

Japan's local governments are running short of funds as lawmakers dicker over legislation needed to authorize bonds to pay for deficit financing.

Though the government and opposition parties look likely to reach a compromise on financing that would avert Japan's own version of a "fiscal cliff," the standoff has done little to inspire confidence in the potential for a strong rebound, says Klaus Baader, a regional economist with Societe Generale Cross Asset Research in Hong Kong.

Signs of a recovery in China's growth rate offer the tantalizing hope of stronger demand for Japan's exports ? if only territorial tensions are kept in check.

Tokyo's first policy priority should be to defuse the antagonisms with Beijing that sparked sometimes violent protests in China during September, and are fueling a backlash against Japan and Japanese products, especially cars, Baader said.

"I don't think this can be done overnight and I don't think Chinese consumers are going to suddenly rediscover their love of Japanese products," he said. But eventually, "whether it's three or six months, people will forget. And Japanese products are of course highly desirable."

The Japanese yen has remained excruciatingly strong, for its exporters at least, due to the country's status as a safe haven for investment.

Rather than a gradual depreciation that might erode investor confidence, Baader says that what is needed is a sudden intervention that would take the yen to between 85 yen-95 yen per dollar, or perhaps even higher, from its current 79 yen to 80 yen per dollar.

In the longer run, wider reaching, more painful reforms will be required to regain sustainable growth, said Rea of Capital Economics.

Despite their generally meager, often declining profitability, Japan's megabanks, trading houses and other big corporations are sitting on huge cash piles. Instead of investing at home and hiring Japanese workers, they are using those resources to snap up assets around the world, such as Softbank's recent acquisition of Nextel.

The central bank's policy of keeping interest rates near zero for many years has done little to change that.

"'They've done as much as they can. Monetary conditions are about as easy as they can get. No one wants to borrow. No one wants to invest, because there is no positive outlook for growth," Rea said.

More crucially for world finances, Japan must finally grapple with its national debt, now at an unsustainable level of some 235 percent of the country's GDP.

Dealing with that problem requires spending cuts and even bigger tax hikes than a planned increase in the national sales tax to 10 percent which is due to take effect in 2014.

"We don't see imminent funding stress for Japan, but the longer the debt continues to rise, the greater the risk of some kind of shock," said Andrew Colquhoun, head of Asia-Pacific Sovereigns at Fitch Ratings in Hong Kong. "Ultimately, stronger economic growth and fiscal consolidation are Japan's best hope of reducing its public debt ratios."

For now, Japan's economy is cushioned by massive investments in its own debt, which protects it from any sudden major shifts by foreign investors, and by its massive earnings on foreign investments by its own financial institutions and corporations.

Bereft of domestic engines for stronger demand, the government has acknowledged it needs more free trade deals to gain maximum access to markets for its exports. It needs to revitalize industries and boost use of renewable energy and use its labor force ? especially its fast-growing senior population and women ? more effectively.

Despite more than two decades of stagnation, so far there has been little progress toward such reforms. Frequent changes in leadership ? six prime ministers in just six years ? have further undermined momentum for change.

"People talk about things but they don't do anything," said Kenneth S. Courtis, an investment banker and former Goldman Sachs vice chairman. "The political system is going in one direction and the economy is going in another direction."

Lana Del Rey Explains That ?Tastes Like Pepsi Cola? Lyric | Music ...

Not everyone can taste the difference between Coke and Pepsi. But Lana Del Rey?s Scottish boyfriend sure can, apparently. The song ?Cola? is all about how a certain part of her anatomy tastes like the fizzy soft drink, and not just any cola. But specifically, Pepsi. What a sophisticated palette! Hear more about how this lyric came about after the jump.

?Cola? is inspired by Lana?s boyfriend, Barrie-James O?Neill, of the band Kassidy. ?I have a Scottish boyfriend, and that?s just what he says!? Lana said about the lyric, ?My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola.?

When asked if she had any reservations about the track, Lana said:

?Well, I didn?t but everyone around me did. They just thought it was really weird ? nothing new here. For me that song was just so cool. Like, the guys I got to play electric guitars? and you know, the amazing surf sounds on it. And I love the way the chorus opens up and has tropical undertones. For me, the vibe of it is so good. I love it.?

Perhaps not surprisingly, Lana reveals she has also been getting a lot of Pepsi-themed fan mail. Though we somewhat doubt Lana will follow in Britney Spears? footsteps and be asked to actually endorse the product in an official capacity.

Still, ?Cola? is bound to Pepsi?s sales up a bit, right?

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) ? Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka on Friday dismissed calls for peace negotiations with the radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram and said Nigerian society is at stake in what he described as a war for survival.

Nigeria's northeast remains under almost daily attack by the sect, which is blamed for killing more than 740 people this year alone, according to an Associated Press count. Three police officers died in an apparent bombing carried out by the sect in Yobe state early Friday morning, officials said.

Soyinka, a 78-year-old playwright and essayist, was once marked for death by one Nigerian military ruler. He has both has feuded with and befriended others. Africa's most populous nation now has a civilian government, though the military remains a powerful behind-the-scenes force.

Despite his often strained relations with his country's military, Soyinka said the military should tackle Boko Haram head-on.

He acknowledged that grinding poverty in Nigeria's north gave rise to Boko Haram, but said negotiating with "mass murderers" would not end the cycle of violence tearing at the country. He also suspects that crooked politicians had a role in Boko Haram's early rise.

Politicians who wanted to rig elections "activated this brainwashed horde of religious militants. That's how it started," Soyinka told foreign journalists in Lagos. Boko Haram members then "looked at those who unleashed them and they realized they were being manipulated. ... And now they are completely out of control."

Boko Haram, which means "Western education is sacrilege" in the Hausa language of Nigeria's Muslim north, has carried out shootings and bombings targeting both Christians and Muslims. The sect continues to kill despite a heavy military presence and says it will stop only if the government strictly implements Shariah law and frees its imprisoned members.

Soyinka called the prospect of the government engaging in peace talks "abysmal appeasement."

"The issue has become a security issue in which the question becomes: who goes down? Is (it) the community, the nation, the society that goes down or is it a bunch of killers who are totally beyond control?"

In its fight against Boko Haram, Nigeria's military has killed dozens of civilians in reprisal attacks after its own soldiers died. Soyinka said the Nigerian military likely had committed "violations of fundamental human rights" in its assaults and that innocent people have been killed. However, he said soldiers had begun to refine their tactics and rely more on intelligence gathering rather "than just a blitzkrieg approach."

"This is a new problem with the military," Soyinka said. "They have never had to cope with this kind of insurgency. So the military itself is making a lot of blunders."

Soyinka won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986 for those works, the first African honored with the award.

NEW YORK (AP) ? A gasoline rationing plan that lets motorists fill up every other day went into effect in New York on Friday morning, as utility crews made some progress erasing outages that put thousands of new homes and businesses in the dark in a region still reeling from Superstorm Sandy.

Police enforced the new system at filling stations in New York City and on Long Island as drivers turned out before dawn to line up for their rations. At a Hess station in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, drivers said it appeared to be working so far.

Luis Cruz, 35, of the Bronx, gassed up the Dodge minivan he uses as a pet chauffeur.

"It's a lot better," Cruz said. "A couple of days ago I waited four hours. They should have done this a long time ago."

The line to the station was just a block and a half long Friday morning, and customers said they waited about 15 minutes. Last week, some lines stretched for a mile or more.

"This is designed to let everybody have a fair chance, so the lines aren't too oppressive and that we can get through this," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Thursday.

Only a quarter of the city's gas stations were open, the mayor said. Some were closed because they were out of power, others because they can't get fuel from terminals and storage tanks that can't unload their cargo.

Near a still-closed auto tunnel linking Manhattan and Brooklyn early Friday, cab and delivery truck drivers ? exempt from the rationing system ? eyed with dismay a line of closed gas stations.

"Hey, when's the gas coming?" one driver hollered, to honking horns. "Tomorrow, we hope," the attendant replied, shrugging his shoulders.

The nor'easter brought gusting winds, rain and snow on Wednesday and early Thursday before it moved on. Snow blanketed several states from New York to New England and stymied recovery efforts from Superstorm Sandy as additional storm-weakened trees snapped and more power lines came down.

Thousands of utility customers, mostly in New York and New Jersey, have been left waiting for their electricity to come back on ? and some are losing patience, demanding investigations of utilities they say aren't working fast enough.

An angry Gov. Andrew Cuomo joined the calls for an investigation Thursday, ripping the utilities as unprepared and badly managed.

"It's unacceptable the longer it goes on because the longer it goes on, people's suffering is worse," he said.

Cuomo appears to be all by himself among the New York area's big three politicians. Bloomberg defended the city's power company, Consolidated Edison, and said it has done a good job in recent years. And New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie praised the utilities, saying he expects all of his state to have power back by early Sunday.

The utilities have said they are dealing with damage unprecedented in its scope and are doing the best they can. And there is no denying the magnitude of what they have done: At the peak, more than 8.5 million homes and businesses across 21 states lost power during Sandy.

Early Friday, there were more than 220,000 outages left in the New York area, mostly on Long Island, and about 250,000 in New Jersey. Almost all Connecticut residents had lights again, down from 625,000 at the storm's height.

Still, some people have lived for days in the dark in temperatures near freezing.

"We lost power last week, just got it back for a day or two, and now we lost it again," said John Monticello, of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. "Every day it's the same now: turn on the gas burner for heat. Instant coffee. Use the iPad to find out what's going on in the rest of the world."

The mounting criticism of utility companies came as the Federal Emergency Management Agency started bringing mobile homes into the region and Cuomo said the storm could cost New York State alone $33 billion.

New Jersey did not have a damage estimate of its own, but others have put Sandy's overall toll at up to $50 billion, making it the second most expensive storm in U.S. history, behind Hurricane Katrina, which swamped New Orleans in 2005.

In New Jersey, where officials made the move nearly a week ago to institute gas rationing, price-gouging lawsuits have been filed against seven stations. They raised pump prices anywhere from 17 to 59 percent higher during the state of emergency related to the storm, Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa said Friday.

Officials in charge of rationing said something had to be done to ease long waits for fuel, which they say has caused panic-buying and hoarding. The system took effect at 5 a.m. Friday on Long Island and at 6 a.m. in New York City.

Gas is available to drivers with license-plate numbers ending in an odd number or a letter on Friday. On Saturday, drivers with license plates that end in even numbers or zero can fuel up.

Buses, taxes and limousines, commercial vehicles and emergency vehicles are exempt from the plan, as are people carrying portable gas cans. Vanity plates that don't have numbers are considered odd-numbered plates. Out-of-state drivers are also subject to the system.

Bloomberg said the shortages could last another couple of weeks.

I?ve been buying up a bunch of solo ads the last few weeks. That led me to wonder?

Do you buy Advertising? If so, what kinds? What?s your biggest tip for success?

Any stories of lessons learned the hard way?

Here are the responses.

jeanetteJeanette S. Cates, PhD of Organize Your Online Business says:

Yes, I buy advertising. It?s faster and more dependable than relying on free traffic only.

I?ve advertised on Google Adwords, as well as Bing. Now I tend to stick with small banner ads so that I can spread a wider net. I use those through several advertising networks so that they appear on blogs with content related to the product I?m advertising.

I also advertise on Facebook. I advertise my pages, sometimes a post, and often an event. Facebook ads are fast and easy to set up and are a great way to get started.

I think the critical thing is to start with an attractive banner. Definitely pay for a professional to do this for you. Then just jump in with a $10-20 ad. Everyone can afford that in your marketing budget.

If you don?t get started you?ll never know how helpful it is to control where your traffic is coming from and how much is coming. It?s a very powerful feeling to know you?re in control ? and not at the mercy of the search engines. So forget those horror stories of people accidentally spending thousands of dollars on ads ? set your daily limit to what you CAN afford and start now!

terryTerry Dean of My Marketing Coach says:

You?re on a subject I?m passionate about. This may surprise readers, but I personally prefer paid advertising over free advertising. Everything you do in business requires an investment of time and/or money. Both free and paid advertising can be great opportunities so you?re find me participating in both.
Time is limited. Money is not. If I invest an hour in a content piece, there is a limit to how many hours I can invest. If I spend $1,000 on an ad and it brings back that much or more, it can keep running and growing.

I?ve used solo ads, Adwords, Bing, Facebook, remarketing, pay-per-view, direct banner purchases, magazines, and direct mail. And I?m sure I?m forgetting others.

The biggest advantage to buying media is how it changes your mindset to force you to think about your conversion numbers from landing page to backend sales. You need the ad to at least pay for itself either immediately or in a trackable time frame such as 30 to 90 days.

Here are a few lessons I could give for anyone getting started with buying ads:

1. Never spend a penny on advertising that isn?t being tracked. I use several different tracking programs such as 1SC?s ad tracker. For example, we buy a unique domain name and redirect it through an ad tracker when running offline ads such as a postcard to a cold list.

2. Keep your investment as small as possible initially. Set daily budgets you?re comfortable losing for daily ads. On something like solo ads or a magazine ad, buy the smallest option they offer. If you can buy a mailing to 5,000 or 20,000, choose the 5,000 the first time you run anywhere. On a magazine, but the 1/8th page size first. Every source of traffic is a new test no matter how effective your ad has been in other locations.

3. Reverse-engineer competitors in the same spots. It?s easiest to explain in Adwords or magazines. Check the competition that is constantly running month-after-month. Analyze their landing page. Subscribe to their list. Even buy a product. See where the money is coming from. Look at what else is offered. How can you include everything required in the market while also giving a unique angle to what you offer? On an email list, subscribe to it. Look at what else is offered.

4. If you sell any type of information product or service, you will find pushing the optin is more profitable than going for the direct sale in most situations. Physical products can more often be promoted directly. If your competitors all push an optin, try to be more unique by running a ?quiz? or something else else customized to get the email.

5. The name of the game is testing and optimization. It?s a rare occasion where an ad succeeds right out of the gate. Improve each step in your funnel and watch your results multiply. Let?s take a solo ad. You can change where you run the ads (which newsletters), the solo ad text you use, your landing page, your immediate offer, and your email follow-up. By the time you have a winning campaign, you likely improved in all those categories.

6. Test shouts instead of whispers. You?ve probably heard someone talk about how a certain color headline increased their response. Fine. But the first tests you should do are the BIG ones such as a completely different offer, complete change in headline style, or a change in the first photo people see.

7. The ad source I?ve consistently seen clients produce the most profits from are remarketing campaigns. A 3:1 or 4:1 profits to expense ratio isn?t uncommon. Remarketing is where you cookie your visitors and then you can follow them around the web showing your banners to them. If you visit a site about ?running shoes,? you may find yourself surrounded by banners about those running shoes even if you?re checking the weather, reading a blog, or at a forum about dogs. If you have enough traffic to make it worthwhile, you could only tag people who land on your optin thank you page or perhaps people who went to your shopping cart.

Terry Dean teaches high level stuff like this at? ?> My Marketing Coach.

This is a re-run of Kim?s answer last year when I asked this question, since I think she?s pretty darned smart. (The details may have changed a bit over time, but the strategy is solid.)

Kim Roach of Traffic Dashboard says:

I started experimenting with paid advertising in 2010. My favorites include Warrior Special Offers, Solo Ads, and banner ads.

Personally, pay-per-click is way out of my skill set ;)

But solo ads and WSO?s I can do.

The key is knowing your numbers.

I use Hypertracker to test every traffic source individually. So, for example, if I?m placing a solo ad in someone else?s newsletter I will create a unique tracking link in Hypertracker so that I know exactly how many clicks, subscribers, and sales were generated from that particular traffic source.

For example, with our latest product launch of the Traffic Dashboard I?ve been doing a combined blitz of Warrior Forum Special Offers and Warrior Forum Banner Ads. Using this combination we?ve done a little over 100 sales just from the Warrior Forum alone ? making them one of our top affiliates. But since this was paid advertising there wasn?t actually an affiliate link in place.

Maybe I should ask Allen if he?d like to become an affiliate ;)

The WF Banner Ads are a new advertising option that has recently been introduced by the Warrior Forum and it costs $100 to have your banner displayed for a full 24 hours.

Not bad for being able to position yourself in front of THE most popular Internet Marketing forum online.

And based on my stats from Hypertracker, we?ve been generating AT LEAST $200 in profit for every ad we place. So that means I spend $100 and get at least $300 back.

As you can imagine, I?ll do that all day long as long as I?m generating a profit.

But, it is a little bit tough to get a WF Banner spot ? they stay full most of the time.

I wonder why :)

So that?s been a HUGE discovery for 2010.

We also did a number of solo ads in 2010 ? which I plan on scaling even further in 2011. Again, it?s really just a numbers game. If you?re going to do paid advertising you MUST know your numbers.

If you?re not tracking everything down to the click, you?re really flying blind when it comes to paid advertising.

But start tracking properly and you?ll be able to zone in on the critical few that bring you the most results.

NicoleNicole Dean of .. here! .. says:

One of the ways to reduce your taxable income (and therefore reduce the amount you pay this year in taxes) is to spend money at the end of the year.

My favorite thing to spend money on is advertising ? simply because it means that I?ll make more money next year from my sales funnels.

What Kind of Ads to Buy?

I?m going to focus here on email advertising. And, the only kind of email advertising I buy are ?solo ads? (which are ads where my promotion is the only thing showing in the email itself). I do not buy email ads that are ?top ads? (where you ad is on the top of the email) or ?classified ads? (where there are a group of ads at the bottom of the email).

I also don?t do ?ad swaps? (which is trading mailings with other marketers) with anyone outside of my personal JV relationships (which are people I personally know and trust). I?m highly protective of my online family and it?s my personal choice not to sacrifice that in order to build my lists.

So, where do I find advertising opportunities?

I?ve been buying up oodles of advertising the last few weeks. The place that I?ve been using, I found through Tony Shepherd, and I really like it so far, because it?s EASY to use.

It is really only good for Internet Marketing and business types of traffic. So, if you?re in the health or parenting niches, then you?re not going to find what you need.

Click here to check it out -> Buy Solo Ads. Sell Solo Ads. Swap Ads.

I did not upgrade, personally, because I?m not planning on selling ads nor in swapping ads. I just wanted to buy them at this time.

However, if you do want to sell ads to your list OR swap, then the upgrade is totally worth it.

I?m very pleased with the service so far.

Here?s how it works to buy an ad.

1. Find a seller.

You can browse by sellers. Each person has a profile that shows how many clicks they have available for purchase or swap and how much it costs per 100 clicks.

So, for Phillip here, he has 100 clicks available for purchase. (His list is larger than that. That?s just the number he?s willing to sell.)

He charges $30 per 100 clicks. That?s a great deal if you know what a sales funnel is and how to use it. ;)

Note: There are a few things to point out that you should look at here.

  1. The ratings. Be sure to choose sellers with positive ratings.
  2. Last login. You want someone who?s active in here if you?re buying from them.

2. Click on ?Buy Solo?.

When I find someone who I want to buy an ad from, I click on ?Buy Solo? and it takes me to a place to submit (reserve) my ad. In buying over 5000 clicks, I?ve only had one seller refuse my ad.

Here?s what that screen looks like.

  • You choose a date and time from available options.
  • Either choose a swipe that you?ve already entered in your settings or click ?Edit? to add your solo email copy.
  • Choose the number of clicks you want which will automatically update your price.
  • Then ?commit to buy?.

3. You pay.

After your seller accepts your ad, you have a few days to pay. You?ll get a notice in your email that the seller has accepted your ad.

Important. You log into your dashboard and pay through there. That way the system will know you?ve paid for that ad.

4. You get notification.

After you pay, you get a notice that the seller has added your solo ad to their queue.

5. You keep an eye on things the days your solos run.

The system spits out the ad WITH a tracking link in it for the people to send out. (That?s how the site tracks how many clicks you actually get.)

So, you sit back and watch your clicks add up. You can see where which countries your clicks are coming from, as well. The service also filters out odd clicks to make sure you only get real ones.

It may take a few days to get all of your clicks. If it?s going slow, don?t be afraid to contact the seller to make sure they?re on top of it. (Nicely.)

6. You rate the seller.

After your ad runs and all of the clicks have been delivered, you go in and rate the seller as ?Good?, assuming they were. :) If they were not good, you have the option of giving no rating (by clicking on ?none? in the rating area) or giving them a bad rating.

Click here to check it out -> Buy Solo Ads. Sell Solo Ads. Swap Ads.

Things to Watch out For and Note.

Refer back to Terry?s list. :) Don?t go willy nilly buying ads. Please.

1. Make sure you have an offer that?s monetized well ? building your OWN list. Do not just send traffic to an affiliate program.

2. Start by buying 100 ads with someone before going crazy with 700-2000 clicks. Their list may not be the best fit for your product.? I went a bit overboard on this, because I wanted to test the service fast so I could decide whether to proceed or not. So, I bought more.

3. Test. Test everything so you can tweak quickly and adjust before the next block of ads run.? I could have done better with this, but am happy with my first few runs so far.

4. Follow-up. Make sure you have several autoresponder messages in your sequence so that your new list members get lots of goodies from you.

So how about you??

Do you buy advertising? Got any tips or hints for me?

I would love to hear what you have to say about it.

Warmly,
Nicole Dean

PS. A Word (or Two) of Common Sense Before I Leave You.

First let me just say that I don?t willy-nilly spend hours on this. It?s one piece of my entire marketing portfolio ? and, as I always say ?Do what works and ignore the noise?.

If you?re brand new and don?t have a marketing funnel, please get that info place first.

And, on the other hand, if you?re getting killer results from video marketing or article marketing, guest blogging, getting interviewed on teleseminars or webinars, recruiting affiliates, getting JV partners, or, writing & submitting press releases, then just read this post and set it aside as a tool that you can pull out and use another day. The last thing I want to do is send you off on a wild goose chase to research advertising if you?re better served to go recruit some new affiliates instead today. :)

That is all. Have a GREAT day!

(AP) ? Oklahoma City went to Kevin Durant in the fourth quarter. Chicago was missing its best closer, so all the Bulls had to pitch in.

Durant and Co. were just too much to overcome.

The NBA scoring champion had 10 of his 24 points in the final period and the Thunder beat the Bulls 97-91 on Thursday night.

"It was one of those games you have to grind out," Durant said. "We've been through so many. We know what it takes."

Durant iced the game with an off-balance jumper off one foot with 35.1 seconds to play. He added another jumper a few seconds later and then finished off his game-ending spree with a couple of free throws.

Oklahoma City outscored Chicago 31-19 in the fourth quarter, overcoming a six-point deficit.

"That's winning time, fourth quarter," Durant said. "In the fourth quarter we really turned it up a lot. But if you want to be a really good team you've got to do that from the beginning of the game."

Serge Ibaka scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half, and had a team-high nine rebounds for the Thunder, who beat the Bulls for the third time in their last four games at Chicago. Russell Westbrook finished with 16 points and 12 assists.

"I told (Durant) be aggressive, just be aggressive, especially in the fourth quarter," Westbrook said. "It was his time. Everybody knows that's his time. He took his time and got the shots he needed."

Luol Deng led the Bulls with 27 points, and Richard Hamilton added 20 points and eight rebounds. Joakim Noah had nine points, 13 rebounds and a team-high six assists.

"Overall, I thought we played hard but we turned the ball over a lot," Noah said. "(Durant) hit some really tough shots."

Hamilton made a tying jumper with 2:52 to play, but then Durant took over, making a floater from the top of the key over Deng to keep the Bulls at bay.

"I was on him," Deng said. "He's 6-9 (6-foot-9). A great player. Really tough shot."

While Durant came up with some clutch baskets at one end, the Bulls had no one to answer with star point guard Derrick Rose sidelined with a knee injury that will keep him out of action into the new year.

"Derrick Rose is an unbelievable player, don't get me wrong. He is Chicago," Durant said. "But those guys are great complements to him. Once one of your best players is out, guys got to step up and that's what they've been doing ever since he's been out."

The teams combined for 43 turnovers. The 21 miscues by the Bulls were a hot topic after the game.

"We have to sustain our defense and take care of the ball," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. "We did not sustain our effort and we need to have low turnovers."

Durant was passive for much of the game and didn't attempt a free throw until the closing seconds. He has had just one game without a free-throw attempt since the start of the 2010-11 season.

"I like Kevin to be a playmaker," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "That is what separates great players from good ones. The 19 shots like tonight are where I like him to be."

The Thunder put together a 7-0 to grab the lead with 8:34 to play. Nick Collison capped the surge with a layup off a pass from Eric Maynor.

Deng snapped the run with his third 3-pointer of the game. Deng entered the contest 1 for 11 from behind the arc. Chicago ranked last in the league in 3-point makes, attempts and percentage, but hit a season-high five 3s in the game.

"Lu provides whatever you need," Thibodeau said. "If you need him to score more, he can do that."

The Thunder responded a six-point run, taking a five-point lead after Ibaka blocked a Deng shot from behind, igniting a fast break and Thabo Sefolosha's layup.

"They are hard to guard," Thibodeau said. "They made some tough plays and closed it out."

Kirk Hinrich scored seven points to lead a third-quarter charge for the Bulls, hitting his second 3-pointer of the game and reaching double figures in scoring for the first time this season. Chicago led 72-66 entering the final period.

The Bulls jumped to an early eight-point lead, but the Thunder closed the opening period with a 9-2 run to tie the game. Durant scored the last six points of the quarter on two dunks and a jump shot.

Ibaka scored 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting in the opening quarter and increased that to 15 by the half, when the Thunder led 48-47.

Jimmy Butler helped Chicago stay close the second quarter, putting up six points, three rebounds and three assists in the period, while playing solid defense on fellow reserve Kevin Martin, who scored 15 points for the Thunder.

Hinrich finished with 12 points.

NOTES: It was a season-high point total for Durant, who entered averaging 20.8 points after scoring a league-best 28.0 points per game last season. Durant had scored at least 25 points in his last seven games against Chicago, but his high in Oklahoma City's first four games was just 23. . The Bulls entered second in the league in defensive points allowed per possession. Chicago hadn't allowed a team to score more than 93 points in any of its first four games. . The teams combined to hit 36 of 39 free throws. It was just the fifth time both the Bulls and their opponent shot at least 88.9 percent from the line since the 1996-97 season.

Chia Spiced Apple Butter Crumble Bars(Vegan) - Food Doodles

I hope you?re looking forward to these wonderful bars!? I mentioned them in my pumpkin hot chocolate post because they were in the background.? Although I changed the recipe a little bit before sharing it with you, so they look a little different.? I wanted them a little more oaty, not to mention I wanted more apple butter to cakey bar so I had to test that first before sharing it with you!

I have to be honest, I took waaaaaay more pictures than what are just in this post.? I had to cut things down considerably.? That speaks to how much I like these bars :D

They?re dense and crumbly with the perfect creamy, sweet and tangy apple butter center.? Yummy!? Oh, and I made the apple butter with chai spice.? You don?t have to.? Just plain cinnamon would be awesome too I?m sure.? But when the leaves start falling I get chai fever.? I seriously drink bowl-fulls of chai tea every day.? I can?t help myself.

I obviously couldn?t help myself when it came to flavoring this apple butter either.? There?s a vendor at our local farmers market that grinds his own spices and makes his own spice mixes.? I had bought some chai spice from him so I used that in my apple butter and it was an awesome decision.? The spice mix was super fresh and flavorful though so you may need to use more of a commercial brand to get the same effect.

Honestly, take a look at this amazing apple butter!? I didn?t even use an amazing food processor or blender or anything, just my immersion blender.? I seriously love that thing.? What would I do without my immersion blender?

Anyways? Look at how smooth and silky that apple butter is!? It is incredibly delicious!? I have to stop myself from going in the fridge with a spoon looking for this stuff.? I got the idea to cook this in the crockpot from Angela of Oh She Glows.? It?s a genius idea that takes a lot of the hassle out of making apple butter,? I?ll be doing this again soon!

Chai Spiced Apple Butter(in the crockpot)

Makes just under 6 cups

  • 6 lbs mixed apples, cored with skin on
  • 1-2 tsp chai spice
  • 2 tbsp real maple syrup, optional, more if needed

Core the apples and add them to the crockpot.? Cook on high for at least 4 hours, or until the apples are falling apart, stirring occasionally.? Give the apples a good stir to break them up.? Using a blender or food processor, transfer the mixture(in batches if needed) and blend until completely smooth before returning it to the crockpot.? Using an immersion blender just blend the apples(skin and all) in the crockpot until completely smooth.? Add the chai spice(or just cinnamon to taste).? Continue to cook the apple butter on high in the crockpot without a lid until it reaches the desired consistency, about an hour, depending on the type of apples used.? Stir occasionally so that the bottom doesn?t scorch.? Once the apple butter has reached the desired consistency, taste and add maple syrup as needed.? Cool and store in a sealed container in the fridge.

And next up, these wonderful bars :) ? Enjoy!

Apple Butter Crumble Bars

Makes an 8?8 baking dish that can be cut into? 8-12 bars

  • 1 C +2 tbsp old fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 C white whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 C walnuts
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon(or chai spice)
  • 1/4 C coconut oil,melted
  • 1/4 C almond milk, plus 1 tbsp extra milk if needed
  • 1/3 C coconut sugar(or sucanat)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 C apple butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.? Prepare an 8?8 pan by lining with parchment paper(so that the bars can be lifted out) sprayed or brushed lightly with oil.? Set aside

In a small bowl combine the oats, flour, walnuts, baking soda and baking powder, sea salt and cinnamon.

In a larger bowl, stir together the oil, milk, sugar and vanilla until combined.? Add the dry ingredients to the oil and milk mixture.? Stir well until completely incorporated.? Pour slightly more than half of the batter into the prepared 8?8 pan.? Spread out so that the mixture covers the bottom of the pan.? Place pan in the oven and bake for 10 minutes until partially cooked.? Remove from the oven, spread the apple butter evenly almost to the edges of the pan.? Using a spoon, drop small amounts of the remaining batter over the top of the apple butter as evenly as possible.? Return to the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes until golden.? Remove from the oven and cool 15 minutes before lifting the edges of the parchment paper to remove the bars from the baking dish.? Place the bars(and the paper) directly on a wire rack and cool completely before cutting and serving.

Notes: I used coconut oil and almond milk to keep these bars vegan, but butter and any dairy milk could be used in these if desired.

Brown sugar can also be subbed for the coconut sugar.
